Flint Hills Resources is a leading producer of fuels and petrochemical products and an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc. The company operates a refining complex in Corpus Christi, as well as a terminal near Ingleside. It is a major supplier of gasoline, jet fuel and diesel fuel to markets in San Antonio, Austin, Waco and Dallas/Fort Worth, as well as commodity chemicals worldwide.

Flint Hills Resources’ West Plant was built in 1953 by Suntide Refining Company and retrofitted in 1975 so that it could also process petrochemicals. The West Plant was acquired in 1981 by a Koch company. In 1982 the adjacent Gulf States Refinery was acquired, followed by the purchase of Kerr-McGee’s Southwestern Refinery located on Nueces Boulevard in 1995. All of these facilities are now owned and operated by Flint Hills Resources.

Flint Hills Resources employees are focused on becoming the operator of choice within the community. FHR strives to improve operations, including environmental, health and safety performance. As a result, FHR’s employees have worked 13.4 million hours without an injury resulting in time away from work. Emissions of commonly regulated substances from the refinery are 52 percent lower, per barrel of refining capacity, than peer companies, based on the most recently available data.

In 2006, Flint Hills Resources celebrated its 25th year of operation in Corpus Christi. The company has earned numerous community, safety and environmental awards, including EPA’s Clean Air Award for the company’s success in reducing refinery flare time.

Flint Hills Resources and its employees actively support local community activities and organizations. This community support is best exhibited by the fact that FHR has donated more than $4.5 million to local organizations. Some of the activities and organizations that FHR and its employees have been involved with include: Big Brothers/Big Sisters of South Texas, Driscoll Children’s Hospital Fiesta de los Ninos, Texas State Aquarium, Operation Paintbrush, Mano-a-Mano Empowerment Scholarship Fund with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, United Way of the Coastal Bend, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and Junior Achievement of South Texas.
