- Senior year students work area rotations at hospitals.
- Last year every Health-Science Academy student finished top 10 percent of class.
- Receive possible job opportunities with local hospitals upon graduation.
- In 2006 117 middle school students applied, 90 admitted.

Texas Science Technology Engineering and Math (T-STEM) grant
- T-STEM, a model for creating small learning communities, in science technology engineering and math.
- First T-STEM program to include middle school students.
- Begins Fall 2007 with 100 6th graders, 100 9th graders.
- Starts at Cunningham Middle School, funnels into Moody High School.
- Students choose academy in middle school, continue academy through high school.
- Program funded by $750,000 grant from Texas Education Agency, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Dell Foundation, and others throughout state.

- Partnership between seven districts in region that provides math professional development.
C-SCOPE
- TEKS-based curriculum collaborative in math, English language, science and social studies.
- Curriculum focuses on strengthening levels of understanding through critical thinking.
Extra math/science courses
- Offers environmental science, aquatic science, anatomy and physiology, pre-calculus, calculus, probability and statistics, principles of technology, engineering and geographic information systems.
- Elective math/science coursework at intermediate and junior high levels.
Extracurricular opportunities
- Mathcounts Teams, Texas Math and Science Coaches’ Association events, Octathlon, Decathlon, UIL events, Chess teams, Robotics and E-Cyberspace competition.

Conrad Blucher Inst. For Surveying & Science
- Geographic Information Science (GIS) program first offered in 1995.
- Began with endowment from Conrad Blucher, a local South Texas Land Surveyor.
- Graduates meet educational requirements to become Registered Professional Land Surveyors in Texas.
- Bachelor and Masters program offered.
- 113 graduates, some salaries over $100,000.
- 75 students currently enrolled.
- 4 GIS scholarships, assists up to 20 students.

(ME)ˆ 2 By the Sea Mathematics Conference
- Third annual conference held Friday, June 8 at TAMUCC.
- Attracted more than 300 local teachers.
- Sponsored by University’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Coastal council of Teacher of Mathematics (CCTM).
- Emphasized curriculum alignment and math engagement for kindergarten through college.
- More than 35 conference workshops featured hands-on activities teachers can use to address topics in math curriculum.

DEL MAR COLLEGE
Course redesign grant
- College algebra and computer science classes selected for redesign as part of statewide effort to improve retention and passing rates.
- Funded by Texas High Education Coordinating Board.
- Began summer 2007.
- Algebra project received $37,016.
- Computer science received $139,941.
- Algebra projects includes dual credit course for Taft and Tuloso-Midway high schools.
- Centerpiece of algebra redesign project is new software program, MyMathLab, which integrates technology into standard math classes.
Geospatial education & technology training
- Department of Computer Science and Information Technology received $272,782 from $750,830 National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education award.
- Part of Integrated Geospatial Education and Technology Training project designed to help community colleges meet workforce needs in geospatial industry.
- Del Mar to partner with 20 other community colleges and 40 technology educators to take semester – long online course to further training in Geographic Information Systems, Global Positioning System and remote sensing.
- Will reinforce Del Mar’s role in securing National Science Foundation grants.
- Places school at forefront of technology research.
