Doing More Since 1966

IBC was founded in 1966 to meet the needs of small businesses in Laredo, Texas. Today, it serves as the flagship bank of International Bancshares Corporation. Since its opening, IBC has grown from less than $1 million in assets to more than $11.8 billion, making it one of Texas’ largest holding companies. IBC now serves 88 communities throughout Texas and Oklahoma with 217 branches and more than 370 ATMs and provides full service banking seven days a week. Furthermore, customers can bank during late hours that are convenient for them and can even bank while they shop at many HEBs, Wal-Marts, Krogers, Randalls, and inside local Malls

In 2010, Hispanic Business Magazine ranked IBC as the number one Hispanic-owned financial institution in the nation. The bank was also the number one Hispanic-owned business in Texas and fourth nationally. Additionally, Forbes Magazine ranked IBC in 10th place on their Americas Best Banks list.

On their 2008 list of Top Performing Banks, American Bankers Association placed IBC as #11. In 2008, IBC Bank was recognized by Bank Director Magazine as one of the nations largest banks and thrifts with the most assets and highest five-year return on equity. IBC placed in the top 150 out of more than 8,500 U.S. banks in the two categories.
IBC is proud of its record of never having experienced a down year, a record that continues to inspire confidence among our customers.

Our Business Philosophy

IBC's successes have come as a result of an aggressive and innovative attitude to Do More for our customers and our communities. This philosophy of investing time and resources does not end in the development of products and services. We encourage our more than 3,700 employees and officers to serve on boards and to volunteer in civic groups and charitable organizations supporting the arts, education, neighborhood revitalization programs, economic development, medical research and many other causes.

We Do Moreť reflects our commitment and dedication to the growth and success of our customers and our communities. It means we go above and beyond to respond to our customers needs. In 2009, the Employee Advisory Boards, corporate wide, spent more than 23,000 hours volunteering with various charities

Excellence in Performance

For dedication to the community, IBC was awarded the Cornerstone Award from the Texas Bankers Foundation in 2005 for Its a Brighter Christmas, a holiday-focused giving initiative and again in 2009 for Operation Care Drop, a donation drive benefiting our troops. In 2010, IBC Bank was awarded the LIFE Award from the Texas Bankers Foundation for its Money Buzz program, a financial literacy program that teaches students the importance of saving.

IBC has also been honored by Texas Governor Rick Perry with the Governors Volunteer Award. Furthermore, National Bankers Association has awarded IBC their coveted High Performance Bank Award many times in recognition of leadership qualities and excellence in overall performance and service. IBC has also received the prestigious George Washington Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge and has been recognized time and time again by United Way with the Corporate Excellence Award for its strong community support.

The phenomenal success of IBC and its perfect record of consecutive years of growth and profitability are directly attributed to the dynamic leadership of Chairman of the Board and CEO Dennis E. Nixon and the IBC team that surrounds him.

For his outstanding generosity, United Way honored Nixon with its acclaimed Platinum Corazan Award. His myriad of civic involvements, awards and recognitions have been on a national and international level. Other recognitions include the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame Award, the Paul Harris Fellow Award given by Rotary International for outstanding community service, and the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanities Award given by the State of Israel for outstanding services to humanity.

In 2006, Dennis Nixon was inducted into the prestigious Texas Business Hall of Fame. In 2007, he was elected to serve on the board of directors of the United States Chamber of Commerce, and in 2008 he received the International Citizen Award from the World Affairs Council of San Antonio. Most recently, Nixon was selected to be the recipient of the Mr. South Texas 2010 honor by the Washingtons Birthday Celebration Association.
